Residential Fellowships in Humanities at National Humanities Centre, USA

The National Humanities Center offers 40 residential fellowships for advanced study in the humanities for the period September 2014 through May 2015. Applicants must have doctorate or equivalent scholarly credentials. Young scholars as well as senior scholars are encouraged to apply, but they must have a record of publication, and new Ph.D.s should be aware that the Center does not normally support the revision of a doctoral dissertation. In addition to scholars from all fields of the humanities, the Center accepts individuals from the natural and social sciences, the arts, the professions, and public life who are engaged in humanistic projects. The Center is also international and gladly accepts applications from scholars outside the United States.

Areas of Special Interest

Most of the Center's fellowships are unrestricted. Several, however, are designated for particular areas of research. These include a fellowship for a young woman in philosophy and fellowships for environmental studies, English literature, art history, Asian Studies, and theology.

Stipends

Fellowships are individually determined, according to the needs of the Fellow and the Center's ability to meet them. The Center seeks to provide at least half salary and also covers travel expenses to and from North Carolina for Fellows and dependents.

Facilities and Services

Located in the Research Triangle Park of North Carolina, near Chapel Hill, Durham, and Raleigh, the Center provides an environment for individual research and the exchange of ideas. Its building includes private studies for Fellows, conference rooms, a central commons for dining, lounges, reading areas, a reference library, and a Fellows' workroom. The Center's noted library service delivers books and research materials to Fellows, and support for information technology and editorial assistance are also provided. The Center helps locate housing for Fellows in the neighboring communities.

Information for International Applicants

The National Humanities Center welcomes fellowship applications from scholars engaged in advanced humanities research regardless of citizenship or national origin. Each year, several scholars from countries other than the United States come to the Center as part of the cohort of Fellows.

The following information is intended primarily for scholars applying from outside the United States.

Eligibility

Successful candidates typically earned a Ph.D. in a humanities discipline from an accredited university at least five years prior to applying for a fellowship. Fellowships are awarded to established scholars, meaning that successful candidates usually have published at least one single-author monograph or a significant body of peer-reviewed scholarship. The Center does not fund post-docs. There is no upper age limit, but senior candidates must be actively engaged in scholarly research which will eventuate in significant publication.

Fluency in written and spoken English is required.

Preparing the Application

Project descriptions should emphasize the scholarly significance of the proposed research. Potential economic or public benefits of the proposed research are not taken into consideration in determining fellowship awards. Instead, proposals should convey the importance of the project for advancing knowledge both within a scholar's own field and for the humanities generally. Where appropriate, applicants should cite evidence of their participation in and contribution to international Anglophone scholarship.

Use a standard, easy-to-read font, preferably in 11- or 12-point; do not capitalize all text.

Fellowship applicants are asked to provide three letters of reference in support of their candidacy. Letters of reference from specialists who hold appointments in institutions other than the candidate's place of employment help to convey the breadth of the candidate's scholarly profile. Letters of reference from scholars with experience at American, British, or European research institutions can help to contextualize a candidate's preparation and suitability for a residency at the National Humanities Center.

Mail delivery from overseas can take several weeks: please take this into consideration when arranging for letters of reference.

Relocation Assistance for International Fellows

Fellowship recipients who come from overseas are provided with guidance in securing housing, arranging local transportation, and finding schools. Travel expenses to the Center and back home again by the Fellow and those members of the household who accompany him or her to North Carolina are reimbursed by the Center.

The Center sponsors J-1 (Research Scholar) visa applications for its Fellows who are not U.S. citizens. For more information, see http://j1visa.state.gov/programs/professor-and-research-scholar. The U.S. government requires that international Fellows have at least $50,000 in medical coverage per accident or illness and a deductible not to exceed $500 per accident or illness.

Fellowships are supported by the Center's own endowment, private foundation grants, contributions from alumni and friends, and the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Applicants submit the Center's form, supported by a curriculum vitae, a 1000-word project proposal, and three letters of recommendation. Susan R. Meisinger Graduate Fellowship for International Students

The Susan R. Meisinger Fellowship for Graduate Study in HR is a premier source of funding for first-time master's degree students in Human Resources. The award honors former SHRM President & CEO, Susan R. Meisinger, SPHR.  

The fellowship is designed to support master’s degree students who are either members of SHRM or certifed HR professionals through the HR Certification Institute. Sponsored jointly by SHRM, the SHRM Foundation and the HR Certification Institute, the fellowship supports those who want to leverage significant past contributions to the HR management field and who plan to continue contributing to the profession by earning a master’s degree in HR. 

One winner is selected annually to receive a fellowship of up to $10,000. Additional fellowships may be

awarded, depending on funding available, quantity and quality of applicants, and the discretion of SHRM. Each fellowship is renewable for one additional year for a total of two years of graduate study and up to $20,000 total for the fellowship. Doctoral students, including DBAs and Ph.D.s, are not eligible for this award.

Mead Scholarships & Fellowships, University of the Arts London, UK

The Mead Scholarships and Fellowships are one of the most prestigious student and graduate support programmes at UAL, designed to support UAL students and recent graduates in the pursuit of excellence through the development of their creative practice.

The Mead Scholarships and Fellowships are for talented students and graduates who have demonstrated outstanding ideas and excellence in practice across a wide range of creative sectors, or the use of creative solutions in other sectors.

The Mead Scholarship will provide up to three awards of up to £2,500 each for undergraduate students who have already exhibited a high level of creative potential and excellence in practice, and have one further year of study at UAL following receipt of the grant, thus allowing them the summer period before entering their final year of study to develop a body of research and/or practice at a crucial time.

The Mead Fellowship will provide up to two awards of up to £10,000 each to new and recent graduates, allowing them the time and flexibility to develop a body of research and/or practice after their graduation.

The Mead Programme is managed by SEE and generously supported by philanthropist Scott Mead, for an initial five years, beginning 2012/13. Scott Mead is a fine art photographer, philanthropist and investor based in London for over 20 years. From his base in London, many of his current business and philanthropic activities take him to the United States and Asia on a regular basis. Scott's photographs have been exhibited and sold in the UK, Europe and USA and are held in various private and institutional collections. He is involved with a number of major institutions in education, healthcare and the arts through the Mead Family Foundation, of which he is Founder and Chairman. He has had over thirty years of experience in the financial services sector, including as a partner and managing director of Goldman Sachs, which he left in 2003, and an investor and director with start-up businesses in media and technology.

Aims

Mead Scholarships and Fellowships aim to help students and recent graduates extend and develop their practice, expertise, interests and knowledge in one of three areas: creative practice, academic or post doctoral research, or social enterprise. They are designed to support recipients in the pursuit of excellence in fields which cannot easily be accommodated in a traditional academic or commercial environment.

Mead Scholars and Fellows would be expected to become 'ambassadors' of the programme. The expectation is to evolve the programme into a highly-respected community of professional peers with excellence of practice and reputation at its core.

What Can Be Funded?

The Scholarships and Fellowships would cover practice or research activities lasting up to one year, including:-

• Travel and related costs
• Books, publications and materials
• Professional development and training
• Specialist expertise and advice
• Language-related costs (e.g., translation services)

In addition, Fellowships (but not Scholarships) could cover:-

• Workspace/studio rental
• Subsistence allowances

Funding will be disbursed in two tranches – 50% upfront and 50% upon submission of an update report at an agreed time.

What Cannot Be Funded?

• Capital purchases (e.g. equipment, vehicles, property ownership)
• Activities such as electives, degree placements and/or internships

What Are We Looking For?

Applicants will be assessed on the extent to which proposals are persuasive and well-articulated, detailing the following:

• Evidence of a high level of academic attainment and excellence in practice

• The proposed research, practice or social enterprise outcomes and any anticipated wider benefits to an industry, sector or community.

• How the results/outcomes/benefits will positively affect the recipient's studies or development of practice.

• An explanation of budgeted costs to be covered by the award.

Fellows (m/f) will be enabled to develop an independent research project and to write an application for subsequent third-party funding.
  Advanced postdoctoral researchers (m/f) (one to four years after having received their doctorate) are offered positions for up to four years to conduct independent research.
  International postdoctoral researchers (m/f) (at most two years after having received their doctorate) are encouraged to apply for a two-year BREMEN TRAC – incoming COFUND Fellowship to develop and implement an independent research project. Applicants (m/f) can be of any nationality but at the time of application, they must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Germany for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the call deadline.

Beasiswa S2 & S3, Netherlands Fellowship Programmes (NFP)

Pemerintah Belanda kembali menawarkan Netherlands Fellowship Programmes (NFP) di tahun 2013. Program ini menawarkan beasiswa penuh bagi para profesional dari berbagai negara untuk mengikuti pelatihan atau studi lanjutan di Negeri Kincir Angin itu.

Beasiswa NFP terdiri dari beasiswa untuk program studi S-2, S-3, kursus singkat dan kursus lanjutan, termasuk program e-learning. Kandidat yang berminat pada salah satu program tetap harus memenuhi kriteria umum berikut ini:

- harus sudah memiliki pengalaman kerja minimal tiga tahun.
- direkomendasikan oleh pimpinan yang juga akan menjamin tetap menggaji dan menerima kandidat saat pulang dari studi Belanda.
- telah memenuhi persyaratan dan diterima oleh salah satu institusi pendidikan tinggi di Belanda yang masuk dalam daftar NFP.
- melamar program studi yang sesuai dengan bidang yang ditekuni.

Beasiswa mencakup biaya kuliah dan tunjangan hanya berupa pelengkap gaji yang tetap kandidat terima dari institusi tempat bekerja sekarang untuk biaya hidup, biaya visa, akomodasi, asuransi, dan biaya penelitian tesis.

Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program for Mid-Career Professionals, Aminef

Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowships enable Indonesian mid-career professionals to participate in non-degree programs that combine academic course work at the graduate level with professional development activities in the U.S. for a period of one academic year (9 months). Candidates are typically administrators in leadership positions with a minimum of five years of work experience who represent either the public or non-profit private sectors, including Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO’s) who are committed to public service.

Applicants will possess:

• a Sarjana (S1) degree with a minimum GPA of 2.75 (4.0 scale). S2 graduates are also welcomed to apply.
• a minimum ITP TOEFL score of 525 or IELTS of 5.5 or IBT TOEFL score of 70/71. Please note that TOEFL prediction or TOEFL-like score cannot be accepted.

PPIA-VOA Fellowship 2012

Apakah Anda seorang wartawan atau lulusan baru di bidang jurnalisme? Ingin merasakan bekerja di Amerika?

VOA Indonesia dan Perhimpunan Persahabatan Indonesia-Amerika (PPIA) menawarkan kesempatan bekerja di VOA Indonesia selama enam bulan, melalui program Broadcasting Fellowship. Program ini mencakup biaya perjalanan PP, akomodasi, asuransi kesehatan, visa dan fiskal.

Kesempatan ini terbuka bagi lulusan baru di bidang Jurnalisme dan Penyiaran, dan mereka dengan pengalaman kurang dari tiga tahun di bidang penyiaran atau media cetak. 

Program Fellowship
Broadcasting Fellowship oleh PPIA-VOA adalah program kerjasama antara Perhimpunan Persahabatan Indonesia-Amerika (PPIA) dengan Voice of America (VOA). Program ini memberi kesempatan berharga bagi para penyiar dan jurnalis muda Indonesia untuk mendapat pengalaman kerja di salah satu organisasi penyiaran internasional ternama, VOA di Washington, DC. Peserta akan bergabung dengan tim VOA Indonesia yang dinamis, di mana mereka akan mengembangkan keterampilan untuk memproduksi berita dan informasi lainnya sesuai dengan standar tinggi jurnalistik dan penyiaran VOA. Selama 6-12 bulan di AS, mereka memberi kontribusi kepada program multimedia VOA Indonesia di televisi, radio, internet dan ponsel untuk menyampaikan informasi yang akurat, berimbang dan obyektif bagi khalayak di Indonesia. 

Broadcasting Fellowship oleh PPIA-VOA juga merupakan perwujudan tujuan PPIA untuk meningkatkan pemahaman dan mempererat persahabatan antara Amerika Serikat dan Indonesia. Para peserta tak hanya memperoleh pengalaman profesional di VOA, mereka juga tinggal selama masa kerja tersebut di AS. Selama di sini, mereka berlaku sebagai duta tak resmi dari Indonesia di komunitas mereka di Amerika. Sekembalinya mereka ke Indonesia, mereka tidak hanya membawa kembali pengetahuan dan keterampilan yang mereka peroleh di VOA, tapi juga dapat membagi pengalaman mereka hidup di Amerika dengan rekan, tetangga, teman dan keluarga mereka.

Ketentuan Fellowship
Setiap tahunnya, PPIA dan VOA memilih dua penyiar atau jurnalis muda. Mereka yang dapat melamar untuk program ini adalah lulusan baru perguruan tinggi, atau mereka yang telah memiliki pengalaman kerja tidak lebih dari tiga tahun.

PPIA menanggung biaya yang muncul selama proses seleksi, permohonan visa AS dan tiket pesawat ke dan dari Amerika bagi para peserta. Akomodasi, biaya hidup dan asuransi kesehatan di Amerika ditanggung dengan gaji peserta selama bekerja untuk VOA.

VOA menyediakan visa J-1 bagi para peserta. Dengan visa J-1, peserta diwajibkan untuk kembali ke Indonesia dan tinggal selama sekurang-kurangnya dua tahun, sebelum dapat melamar untuk bekerja atau tinggal di Amerika. Dengan demikian, peserta dapat menyalurkan pengetahuan dan pengalaman mereka di tanah air sekembalinya dari program ini.

Kedua peserta terpilih setiap tahunnya akan memulai bekerja untuk VOA di bulan April.

2013 Visiting Fellowship Scheme, University of Nottingham, UK

The University of Nottingham’s International Office is pleased to announce the launch of the 2013 Visiting Fellowship Scheme, which will allow 20 researchers from seven partner countries the opportunity to complete a three month period of research in Nottingham.

The Scheme follows on from the successful University of Nottingham ‘Indian Visiting Fellowships Scheme’ which ran in 2010 and 2011 and the ‘Brazil Visiting Fellowship Scheme’ which ran in 2012.

The aims of the Scheme are to:

• Promote research collaboration between leading groups in Nottingham and the seven partner countries through projects undertaken initially at Nottingham
• Support capacity development with universities in the partner countries
• Enable Visiting Fellows to obtain insight into the organisation and conduct of research, training and administration at Nottingham
• Help support developing partnerships and identify possible new partnerships in the partner countries

International Climate Protection Fellowships for Developing Countries, Germany

The International Climate Protection Fellowships enable prospective leaders to conduct a research-related project of their own choice during a one-year stay in Germany. Submit an application if you are a prospective leader from a non-European threshold or developing country (see list of countries) working in the field of climate protection and resource conservation in academia, business or administration in your country. Applicants must provide a clearly visible leadership potential either by experience in a first leadership position or be able to provide appropriate references. They must also have completed their first university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent academic degree) less than 12 years prior to the start of the fellowship (1 September 2013) with outstanding results. They must also have extensive professional experience in a leadership role (at least 48 months at the time of application) or hold a further academic or professional qualification. Furthermore, they are expected to have gained initial practical experience through involvement in projects related to climate protection and resource conservation. The fellowship will enable the recipients to conduct a research-related project of their own choice with hosts in Germany whom they are free to choose themselves.

The programme, which is being funded under the International Climate Initiative by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, includes a preparatory intensive language course in Germany, a several-week introductory seminar, a several-day training course and a final meeting in Berlin. These activities will enable you to gain additional insights into academic, social, cultural, economic and political life in Germany.

In addition to applicants who have been trained in the natural and engineering sciences, candidates who have been engaged in legal, economic and societal issues relating to climate change are encouraged to apply for this programme. The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation is granting up to 15 International Climate Protection Fellowships to prospective leaders from the countries named. The call is subject to the approval of sufficient financial means to the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

RNTC Fellowships Fund for Developing Countries, Netherlands

In January 2012 RNTC launched the RNTC Fellowship Fund to support journalists, programme-makers, broadcast trainers and managers from around the world who are looking to develop their media skills, but do not have enough financial means to pay for the costs of the course of their choice.

The fellowships are available for the following courses:

RNTC Fellowships cover the course fee (up to 50%), not the costs for travel and accommodation. The number of fellowships that RNTC can provide, however, is small.

The scholarships will be awarded on academic and professional merit. When applying for the course, applicants must submit:

• Letter of motivation (150-200 words), explaining why they think they qualify for one of these scholarships
• Completed registration form

• A statement from a sponsor or a bank demonstrating your ability to cover the rest of the costs associated with the course

Kofi Annan Fellowship for Developing Countries Students, Germany

The Kofi Annan Fellowship provides the opportunity for talented and motivated students from developing countries who do not belong to a privileged class and lack sufficient financial means to study management at ESMT in Berlin and graduate with a prestigious MBA from the most international business school in Germany.

Upon return to their home countries, the fellows are expected to contribute to the strengthening of entrepreneurial capacity and the fostering of a stable market economy as an effective catalyst for their country’s development, job creation, and poverty alleviation.

What is the Kofi Annan Fellowship?

A fellowship grant for an emerging leader from a developing country for a one-year full-time MBA education in Berlin, Germany.

Purpose

To make significant contributions to least developed countries (LDCs) and landlocked developing countries (LLDCs); to strengthen the awareness for responsibility in leadership in developed countries.

Partner

ESMT in cooperation with the Kofi Annan Business School Foundation in The Hague, Netherlands. 

When

Starting annually in January. Application deadline is September 30, annually. Up to three fellowships are available each year.

Financials

Value of the fellowship is € 58,000. Fellows will have a full scholarship from ESMT plus fair compensation for costs like travel, accommodation, and program-related fees.

Requirements

Bachelor degree of any kind, a minimum of three years' professional experience, GMAT, fluency in written and spoken English, willingness to contribute to building the economy and society of the home country with entrepreneurial impetus.
