Introduction

1. The Japan-WCO Human Resource Development Programme (Scholarship Programme) provides a grant covering travel, subsistence, admission, tuition and other approved expenses to enable promising young Customs managers from developing countries toundertake Master’s level studies at the Aoyama Gakuin University (AGU) in Tokyo, Japan.

2. The following administrative provisions govern this Scholarship Programme. If a nominee or a concerned person in the nominating administrations has any questions, he/she should address them to the Capacity Building Directorate of the WCO Secretariat before the Scholarship is accepted.

Conditions of candidacy and selection

3. The candidates should be in good health, preferably below 40 years of age as of 1 April 2014.

4. The recipients of Scholarships under this Programme will enrol for the Master’s Degree programme in Strategic Management and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) programme at the AGU.

5. This Scholarship is for one academic year starting from April 2014. There will be a preparatory course in March 2014 for a few weeks before the start of the Programme. The Scholarship period cannot be extended.

6. The candidates should be Customs officers fully proficient in English. (a minimum TOEFL score of internet Based Test (iBT) 79 / Computer-Based Test (CBT) 213 / Paper Based Test (PBT) 550, IELTS 6.0, or its equivalent qualification to prove their language proficiency). They should have a university degree or equivalent qualification.

7. The candidates should have at least 3 years of work experience in Customs and should have assessed potential for advancement. In the selection, preference will be given to candidates who have experience in IPR border enforcement, and who are expected to work in the IPR-related section of their Customs administration after this Scholarship Programme.

8. Individuals who have already been awarded a scholarship under the Japan-WCO Human Resource Development Programme in the past will not be entitled to apply for this Scholarship Programme.

9. After the completion of the Programme, the candidates should continue to work in their home Customs administration for 3 years at least and, after 3 years, they should report to the university indicating the post they occupy in their home administration and how they have been utilizing the experience they acquired in Japan.

10. The candidates will be selected by the WCO in consultation with the AGU. The AGU shall inform the candidates about their selection or otherwise. The WCO will send a congratulatory letter to the administrations whose candidates have been selected.

11. In accepting a Scholarship, the candidate undertakes to:

- Work full time on the assigned Programme. It will not be possible to undertake other activities not related to the Programme.

- Comply with the laws and show due respect for the culture and way of life of the host country.

12. The AGU requests online registration for admissions for the 2014-2015 Scholarship Programme. ID and Password to download the application forms will be obtained by submitting the Registration Form on the Web site by 22 August 2013.

14. A duplicate set will be made and sent to the WCO Secretariat by the AGU Admissions Office. Therefore, it is not necessary to send a duplicate set to the WCO Secretariat.

Beasiswa Monbukagakusho – Program Research Student

Program ini ditujukan untuk mereka yang berminat dalam program research student di perguruan tinggi di Jepang.

Peminat pada waktu menjalani research student diperbolehkan melamar ke program degree (S-2 / S-3 / professional graduate course) atau meneruskan program S-3 setelah menyelesaikan program S-2 / professional graduate course, apabila lulus seleksi tes ujian yang diberikan oleh universitas yang bersangkutan.

Peminat juga dapat langsung masuk ke program degree tanpa mengikuti research student apabila telah mendapatkan izin dari universitas yang bersangkutan. Beasiswa diberikan tanpa ikatan dinas, mencakup biaya kuliah dan biaya hidup.

PERSYARATAN

1. Lahir pada dan setelah tanggal 2 April 1979.
2. IPK minimal 3.0 dari tingkat perguruan tinggi terakhir
3. Nilai TOEFL-PBT minimal 550 atau TOEFL-IBT 79 atau IELTS Minimal 6.0, atau nilai Japanese Language Proficiency Test minimal level 2.
4. Memilih bidang studi yang sama dengan disiplin ilmu sebelumnya.
5. Bersedia belajar Bahasa Jepang.
6. Sehat jasmani dan rohani.

TAHAP PENYELEKSIAN

Kedutaan Besar Jepang melakukan seleksi dokumen, dan akan memberitahukan hasilnya pada tanggal 10 Juni 2013 di website kedutaan Jepang. (Kurang lebih 100 pelamar dipilih melalui seleksi dokumen ini.)

Ujian tertulis Bahasa Jepang dan Bahasa Inggris akan dilaksanakan di Jakarta, Surabaya, Medan, Makassar atau Denpasar pada tanggal 17 Juni 2013. (Nilai yang lebih tinggi akan dipakai untuk pertimbangan seleksi).

Wawancara akan diadakan di Jakarta antara tanggal 18 Juni – 5 Juli 2013. Detail jadwal wawancara akan ditentukan kemudian. (biaya transportasi dan akomodasi tidak disediakan Kedubes Jepang).

Bagi yang lolos seleksi di Kedubes Jepang akan diberikan surat keterangan sbb:

1. berkas formulir beserta dokumen yang telah diberi stamp Kedutaan Jepang,

2. surat keterangan untuk perguruan tinggi di Jepang, dan

3. lembar “Letter of Acceptance”.

MITSUI-BUSSAN SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM FOR INDONESIA, JAPAN

1. Outline and Objectives of Mitsui-Bussan Scholarship Program for Indonesia

The MITSUI-BUSSAN SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM FOR INDONESIA (hereinafter referred to as “the Program”) was established in Tokyo, Japan, in 1992 as a non-profit foundation under the approval of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (formerly called the. Ministry of Education) Japan based on a fund prepared by Mitsui & Co., Ltd. The Program aims to encourage Indonesian students who wish to study at universities in Japan and obtain a bachelor’s degree thereby.

The objective of the Program is to support and assist the students so that:

1. Firstly, the students can learn about and become intimate with Japanese culture and customs.
2. Secondly, the students can develop an international sensibility through daily life in Japan. Consequently, the students can make their best efforts in their respective fields so as to contribute to the development of Indonesia after finishing their studies in Japan, calling upon their experience of living and studying in Japan.

Therefore, the grantees who have completed their studies in Japan under the Program will be requested to make their utmost effort to materialize the Program’s objectives; however, the grantees will be entirely free from any other obligations and duties.

2. Qualifications

1. Nationality: Applicants must be citizens of the Republic of Indonesia.
2. Age: Applicants must be less than twenty (20) years of age as of April 12th, 2013 and unmarried. The grantees must remain single during the tenure of their scholarship period.
3. Academic Background and School Records: Applicants must have completed SMA (Senior High School) of IPA or IPS course with marks of at least seven (7) or higher on their school records for the following subjects, throughout the whole SMA study period of 3 years:
   • For IPA course: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English.
   • For IPS course: Mathematics, Economics, Geography and English.
4. Japanese Language: Applicants must be willing to study the Japanese language and to receive university education in the Japanese language in Japan.
5. Health: Applicants must be healthy, both mentally and physically, and have no infectious diseases.

3. Fields of Study

 (1)    Study of Sciences and Engineering (4- years under - graduate course), such as:
Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Information & Computer Science, Biology, Biophysics &
Biochemistry, Geology, etc.
Civil Engineering, Architecture, Urban Engineering, Environmental Engineering, etc.
Mechanical Engineering, Precision Engineering, etc.
Ship Building & Ocean Engineering, Aeronautics, etc.
Electrical Engineering, Electronics ,  Information & Communication Engineering,   etc.
Metallurgy, Materials Science, etc.
Applied Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, etc.
Industrial Engineering, Factory & Production Management, Plant Management, etc.
Agricultural Engineering, Forest & Fishery Science, Agricultural Chemistry, Agro biology, Food Engineering, etc.
Due to course term reason, applicants can not choose Medical science, Pharmaceutical science and Veterinary science as field of study.
(2)    Study of Social Sciences, Business and Commerce (4 - years under- graduate course), such as;
Civil Law, Public Law, Political Science, etc.
Economic Theory, Economic History, Economic Policy, etc.
Enterprise Management, Accounting, Commerce & Marketing, Finance, Insurance, Industrial
Relations, Econometrics, International Economics, etc.

4. Tenure of Scholarship

Grants are tenable for five years and six months (5.5 years)  from October  2013  until March 201 9, i.e.
Japanese language study: 1.5 years (18 months)
University study:  4.0 years (48 months)
Total: 5.5 years

Note:  -   Japanese language study is scheduled to be conducted at Tokyo Japanese Language Education
Center of Independent Administrative Institution Japan Student Services Organization, Tokyo,  Japan (hereinafter referred to as “Japanese Language Center”).
-   Entrance to and graduation from universities in Japan can only be achieved  by the efforts and
endeavor of the grantees. 

5.  Benefits Provided by the Program

Grantees shall be provided with the following allowances and expenses by the Program for only support
of the grantees’ life and studies in Japan.
(1)   Living Allowance;
The  sum of 145,000 Japanese yen per month will be given to each grantee during the tenure of the scholarship. 

(2)   Transportation Charge:
a.  Transportation from Indonesia to Japan: An economy class one- way air ticket from Soekarno- Hatta
International Airport to New T okyo International Airport will be given to each grantee before  departure.
b.  Transportation from Japan to Indonesia: An economy class one- way air ticket from New Tokyo
International Airport to Soekarno - Hatta International Airport will be given to each grantee who will return to Indonesia, upon submitting an application, within 1 (one) year after the expiration of the scholarship provision.
(3)   Arrival Allowance: The sum of 50,000 Japanese yen will be given to each grantee on arrival in Japan.
(4)   School Fees: Fees for the entrance examination and tuition at the Japanese Language Center as well as
at universities will be borne by the Program.
(5)   Accommodations, Meals, Local Transportation, and Other Costs and Expenses:
a.  For the first one and half years during the period of study of the Japanese language, grantees shall reside at the dormitory of the Japanese Language Center, or a similar place designated by the Program. The cost of such accommodations shall be borne by the grantees. The Program shall provide a lodging subsidy of 5,000 Japanese yen per month per person to the grantees.
b.  During the period of study at universities, grantees shall reside at university dormitories, private boarding houses, or apartment houses, any of which shall be approved by the Program. The cost of such accommodations shall be borne by the grantees. Any necessary key money and/or deposit money shall be borne by the Program. The Program shall provide a lodging subsidy of 25,000 Japanese yen per month per person to the grantees.
c.   The cost of textbooks necessary for the curriculum at Japanese Language Center and/or universities in Japan approved by the Program shall be borne by the Program.
d.  Meals, local transportation charges, and other expenses shall be borne by the grantees.
(6)   I nsurance; The Program shall prepare life insurance, aviation insurance, and accident insurance for the
grantees during the period of Scholarship. (National health insurance premium in Japan shall be borne by the grantees.)

6. Application and Selection Procedures(

A)   Application:
(1)   The applicants shall submit the prescribed application form and other documents as requested below  from March 1 1  ( Monday )   to not later than 12:00 a.m. on April 12, 201 3  (Friday)  to PERSADA  as mentioned below, where the prescribed application form is obtainable.

ADB - Japan Scholarship Program for Students of Developing Countries

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) - Japan Scholarship Program (JSP) was established in April 1988 with financing from the Government of Japan.

It aims to provide an opportunity for well-qualified citizens of ADB's developing member countries* to pursue postgraduate studies in economics, management, science and technology, and other development-related fields at participating academic institutions in the Asian and Pacific Region.

Upon completion of their study programs, scholars are expected to contribute to the economic and social development of their home countries.

The ADB-JSP enrolls about 300 students annually in 27 academic institutions located in 10 countries within the region.

The ADB-JSP provides full scholarships for one to two years.

Procedures for Applying

Applicants should request information and application forms from the chosen Academic Institution(s). Applicants are encouraged to access various resources, including the institutions' websites and handbooks, and institution information sessions held in-country, to assist them in making an informed decision on the academic institution and course they wish to undertake.

Applicants should indicate to the academic institution that they are applying for admission and that they would like to be considered for the ADB-JSP Scholarship. The completed Institution application form and required documentation, including the ADB-JSP Information Sheet form, should be submitted to the academic institution. Applicants must ensure that they submit accurate and complete documentation. Failure to do so may result in an application not being processed or to an award being terminated if documentation or information provided is later determined to be false. Applicants are required to submit their latest Income Tax Return or Certification of their Annual Salary/Monthly Salary, whichever is available. They should also submit a Certification of Family Income (Parent's Income).

The academic institution will screen and rank the applicants, based on its own selection criteria, keeping in view the eligibility requirements and selection criteria of the ADB. In the evaluation process, the academic institution may contact the candidates for further information. The academic institution will then submit its ranked list of applicants to ADB, including a description of the score/grading system which is the basis for the ranking.

ADB will review the submission from the academic institutions and recommend awardees based on the selection criteria of ADB to the Executive Director of Japan for formal approval.

Upon approval by the Executive Director of Japan, ADB will advise academic institutions on the successful candidates.

The academic institution will inform all applicants of the outcome of the selection process and begin to make arrangements for the awardees take up their scholarships.

The academic institutions will arrange for the signing of the Acceptance of Scholarship Award by awardee wherein the scholars agree that after completion of their study, they will return to their home country.

ADB will send an appropriate congratulatory letter to each scholar.

Applications for scholarships should be sent at least six months prior to the planned time that you wish to commence studies.

Important

• No separate application to ADB is necessary.
• The duly accomplished information sheet together with all copies of academic records should be sent to the institution at least six (6) months before the commencement of the intake that you wish to join.
• Only candidates who have been offered admission and endorsed by the academic institutions will be considered for the scholarships by the ADB.
• The ADB-JSP does not cover: expenses for the scholar's family; extra-curricular courses or training; additional travel during the course of the study program; additional expenses related to supplementary educational materials, field trips, or participation in workshops, seminars, or internships while at the academic institution or purchase of educational equipment such as computers.
• Completion of the information sheet or admission by the academic institution does not mean that you have been accepted for a scholarship; accordingly you should not take any action with respect to your current employment or otherwise, until you have been informed by the institution that you have been awarded a scholarship.

NISF Scholarships for Foreign Students at Japanese University, Japan

Application Requirements for foreign student applicants for the scholarship of public interest incorporated foundation Nitori International Scholarship Foundation (hereinafter referred to as “NISF”)

1． Eligibility requirements

(1)	A student from the world over with non-Japanese nationality who is self-supporting and residing in Japan.
(2)	A student currently is enrolled in a Japanese university as an undergraduate or a graduate student, and an undergraduate student is up to age 26 on April 1, 2013 and a graduate student is up to age 28 on April 1, 2013.
(3)	A student who needs financial aid to keep studying in Japan and does not receive any sort of other scholarship .
(4)	A student who is of good enough health to pursuit studies in Japan, of excellent academic record, of good personality
(5)	A student who has good communication skill in Japanese.
(6)	A student who has the strong will to contribute international understanding and mutual friendship
(7)	A student who is able to attend Scholarship Students Activities held by NISF (scheduled to be held twice a year).
(8)	A student who does not receive any sort of scholarship or subsidy for researcher from the other third parties while receiving the scholarship from NISF (Please note that the student who simultaneously possesses scholarships is disqualified for the NISF scholarship recipient.)
(9)	A student who works part-time job in Japan for his/her financial reason to keep studying in Japanese university
(10)	A student who willing to participate NISF alumni activities as alumnus, even if his/her NISF scholarship is expired.

2． Eligible Academic Year

Undergraduates: Regular students currently enrolled in their third or fourth academic year as of April, 2013. Graduates: Regular students currently enrolled in the first or second academic year of a master course as of April, 2013. Undergraduate applicant must be 26 years of age or younger (as of April 1, 2013) and Graduate applicant must be 28 years of age or younger ( as of April 1, 2013) and, as a basic rule, be currently enrolled within the minimum required years of study (i.e. he/she should not repeated a year in Japanese university).

3．Amount of Scholarship

Undergraduate student	110,000 yen per month
Graduate student	110,000 yen per month

4．Duration of Scholarship

As a basic rule, the scholarship will be granted from April 2013 until the final year of the enrolled academic course for a maximum of two years (Exception : when the NISF scholarship recipient repeat a year in Japanese university, he/she is disqualified for the further scholarship from then on)

5．Number of Scholarships Granted

Around 80 students will be new-accepted.

6．Application period (Entry on the Website)

October 15, 2012 to December, 25, 2012 (Please note that NISF may close the applications early when we get many applicants )

7．Selection Process

● Application ～ First selection and Second selection Application: Access NISF website → Enter Scholarship Application 2013 → Fill out the application form on the website and entry it (No documents are required at the time of Web-entry. ) First selection: NISF select some of applicants by the information which the applicants entry in the application form and notice them The applicants who pass on the First selection can take Web-test. Second selection; NISF select some of applicants by the result of Web-test and notice them The applicants who pass on the Second selection can take Interview. ●Interview The first interview is scheduled to be held in February 2013. The following documents written in Japanese will be required for the first interview.

8．Announcement of selection result

Successful applicants are selected and announced by the Representative Director through document review, Web-entry selection, Web test, interviews, and final selection made by the Selection Committee set in NISF. Successful applicants and their universities will be notified the result in early April, 2013 (tentative schedule). Succesful applicant is qualified as the scholarship student of NISF after he/she duly attends the scholarship presentation ceremony　(scheduled in April 2013). Successful applicant should attend the scholarship presentation ceremony to get a scholarship student qualification.

9．Termination or forfeit of Scholarship

The scholarship will be terminated or forfeited in any of the following cases, If there is serious misconduct by the recipient, NISF reserves the right to request return of the scholarship awarded

(1)	Due to illness or any other reason when a recipient is absent from school over one month
(2)	A recipient registers long absence from school or studies abroad (outside of Japan).
(3)	When a recipient is no longer registered in a Japanese university.
(4)	Having been penalized for university regulations.
(5)	Due to illness or other reasons when a recipient is forced to withdraw or cannot continue his/her school work
(6)	Long absence from school without any reason.
(7)	Extremely poor academic achievements and bad conduct.
(8)	Absence from the Scholarship Students Activities without having written permit by NISF which is NISF official stamp on .
(9)	When it is discovered that the applicant's written application form contains misleading or false information .
(10)	Having lost status of residence in Japan as a foreign student.
(11)	NISF cannot reach or contact the recipient for more than 14days due to his/her temporary return to home country, moving house or other reasons.
(12)	When NISF finds the NISF scholarship recipient receives an another scholarship .
(13)	If the supervising professor deems a recipient unqualified to continue his/her study or research.
(14)	If NISF finds a recipient involved in any unethical behavior .
(15)	When the recipient get the regular full-time work
(16)	A recipient defaults the obligation stipulated in this Application requirement for NISF Scholarship.
(17)	If NISF deems a recipient unqualified to continue his/her scholarship.

* The recipient is required to report to NISF, if any of the above (1)～(15)　cases occurs.

10．Absence from the Scholarship Students Activities held by NISF

When the NISF Scholarship recipient is absent from the Scholarship Students Activities held by NISF without the written permit which is the NISF official stamp on, NISF reserves the right to disqualify or to terminate his/her scholarship. Scholarship Student may permit to be absent from Scholarship Students Activities held by NISF by following (1) or (2) reason;

(1)	Attend the class (required to submit the certificate issued by the student Division of the current university)
(2)	Illness ( required to submit a medical certificate which is described the treatment period)

Even if in the case of the above (1) or (2), only the scholarship student who follows the procedure of following ①～③ and gets the written permit with the NISF official stamp and is absent from the Scholarship Students Activities, can succeed to receive the scholarship. ①Notice NISF the reason of absence by phone and E-mail ②Submit NISF the certificate issued by University or the medical certificate ③Get the written permit issued by NISF with the NISF official stamp on it Even if in the case of the above (1) or (2), the scholarship student who does not get the written permit issued by NISF but is absent from Scholarship Student Actvities (because its notice of absence just before a deadline is too late to judge and issue the written permit by NISF), NISF have the right to terminate his/her scholarship.

11．Dual Scholarships

NISF scholarship recipient must not receive a scholarship from any other organization. If a NISF scholarship recipient will take an another scholarship, the NISF scholarship recipient must notify it NISF within 2 weeks after he/she passes the selection for an another scholarship, and NISF shall terminate his/her scholarship. If the NISF scholarship recipient receives dual scholarships, he/she must return the amount of NISF scholarship for the period NISF scholarship overlaps with the another scholarship, within one month from the day when he/she receives the first payment of the another scholarship .

12．Payment of Scholarship

NISF begins payment of the scholarship after the successful applicant submits NISF these two documents below ; (1) Certificate of enrollment issued by the university dated April 2013 (2) Copy of the bank passbook information for transferring the scholarship

13．Submit Report

NISF scholarship recipient must submit a report on their study progress ( including academic records ) and living conditions on NISF Representative Director request.

14．Part-time job in Japan

NISF scholarship recipient must obtain work permit (permission of activity outside scope permitted for international student) by the Immigration Bureau of Japan and must work part-time job in Japan for more than 30 days (more than 4 hours per day) during 3 months from July to September, and must submit the copies of payment slips of part-time job on NISF request.

15．Management of Personal Information

The Nitori International Scholarship Foundation follows the laws of Japan to ensure that all personal information is securely and adequately handled. The personal information given in application documents is only used for the purpose of selection. Such documents of the successful applicants will be kept by NISF and utilized as basic information for net-working activities after graduation. Please note that the list of successful applicants will be provided to the universities where the applicants are enrolled and parties related to NISF. NISF shall dispose the application documents of unsuccessful applicants after keeping in certain period. NISF shall open to the public the list of NISF scholarship recipients with their name, nationality, gender, enrolled university and study field on NISF’s website.

Guideline of the Application for Foreign Students’ Scholarship in 2013 

Outline of Scholarship

1. This scholarship is open to foreign students whowill attend a graduate school at a Japanese university.

2. The payment of the scholarship money will be issued starting from April, 2013.

3. The scholarship winners are under no obligation to repay the amount they receive from the Foundation.

4. The period of the scholarship is set in accordance with the shortest period of time required to complete the intended degree. The student, once awarded the scholarship will be able to choose the option (1), (2) or (3) as below.

1. ¥200,000 per month for1 or 2 years
2. ¥180,000 per month for 3 years
3. ¥150,000 per month for 4 or 5 years

※ An extension will not be given on the pre-determined scholarship period nor would the student be allowed to change his or her courses after the scholarship period has commenced.

※ Those whose enrollment period is shorter than one year are not eligible to apply.

5. Travel expenses for attending an international conference, etc. will be provided to scholarship students following to our scholarship provision rules.

6. The student is not permitted to receive any other scholarship in conjunction with the scholarship offered by the Honjo International Scholarship Foundation.

7. The student cannot gain employment other than part-time work related to his or her studies such as teaching assistant, research assistant, or related to international exchange affairs as translator or interpreter whilereceiving this scholarship

8. You need to come for an individual interview almost every month; we would like you to participate to events that we will hold.

9. After you graduated, you will be required to attend our alumni events.

Requirements

(To be considered for the scholarship, the studentmust satisfy ALL of the requirement criteria below.)

1. The student is registered to attend a graduate school in Japan and does not possess Japanese citizenship. His or her academic achievement as well as moral character is exemplary. He or she must be considered to be in need of financial aid due to extenuating financial circumstances.

2. The student must be registered to attend or havebeen accepted to attend a graduate school after April 1, 2013. He or she must be able to provide any of the following documentation: a certificate of enrollment, a letter of admission or a letter attesting to the fact that the student has been accepted.

3. To be eligible, students enrolled in a PhD Program must have been born after March 31, 1977. Those enrolled in a Master’s Program must have been born after March 31, 1982.

4. The student must be able to assure the committeethat he or she will be able to secure employment in their home country after graduating from a graduate school. This does not require him or her to have employment guaranteed orto return his or her home country immediately after graduating the university, but heor she is expected to have strong will of working in his or her home country in the future.

5. The student must have a deep understanding of international friendship and goodwill, and must be able to attend the events organized by the foundation and take part in the network as an alumni member.

6. The student must be able to carry an everyday conversation in Japanese. Interviews will be conducted in Japanese.

There is no limit on the number of pages or style. Either typed or hand-written is available.

(6) One letter of recommendation from a professor. (This confidential letter should mention the applicant’s academic achievements, character/personality, and his or her potential for the future.) There is no limit onthe number of pages or style.

(7) A certificate of enrollment or a letter of admission. In case that entrance examination will not be held or successful candidates of the entrance examination will not be announced before he or she applies for this scholarship, write down the scheduled date of examination or announcement on the margin of the application form and provide a certificate of current enrollment. (Photocopies are acceptable.)

Miscellaneous

1. Your application package will not be returned toyou.

2. Your personal information provided by you for the purpose of applying for our scholarship will not be used for any other purposesthan for the scholarship selection process except for the following cases.

1. During the scholarship selection process, individuals on the selection committee may obtain/view your application package.
2. In order to verify the application contents or to avoid awarding multiple scholarships to an individual, we provide necessary applicants’ information to the universities and other foundations also offering scholarships.

Selection Process

AUN/SEED-Net Doctoral Scholarships Program for ASEAN Countries Students, Japan

The AUN/SEED-Net Project with support from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) provides scholarships for prospective applicantsfrom AUN-SEED/Net Member Institutions to pursue doctoral degrees in engineering at one ofthe following Japanese Supporting Universities: Hokkaido University, National Graduate Institute of Policy Studies, Keio University, Kyoto University, Kyushu University, Tokai University, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Toyohashi University of Technology, University of Tokyo, Shibaura Institute of Technology, and Waseda University.

The fields of study that can be supported by the AUN/SEED-Net are as follows: Civil Engineering (CE), Chemical Engineering (ChE), Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE), Environmental Engineering (EnvE), Geological Engineering (GeoE), Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Manufacturing Engineering (ManuE), Materials Engineering (MatE), and Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering (ME/AE). Under the above 9 fundamental engineering fields, applicants, if interested, may also propose
any research topic(s) related to the new five (5) interdisciplinary areas (Biotechnology, Disaster Mitigation, Environment, Natural Resources/Materials, and New/Renewable Energy). 

Although studying outside ASEAN countries, students under the Doctoral Degree Program in Japan are encouraged to participate in AUN/SEED-Net’s network activities (e.g. AUN/SEED-Net Regional Conference, Collaborative Research activities, etc.) so as to create, maintain, and deepen the linkage with Member Institutions (student’s sending institution and/or student’s hosting institution when pursued master’s degree).

2. Objectives
(1) To increase the number of high quality doctoral degree holders in engineering at Member Institutions to contribute to a sustainable industrial development of ASEAN countries through conducting highly qualified education and researches.
(2) To strengthen human networking of teaching and research staff among Member Institutions and Japanese Supporting Universities.

3. Qualifications
(1) Applicants must have a research-based master’s degree in relevant engineering field or to be awarded the master’s degree before starting doctoral degree study.
(2) Applicants should be ranked within top 10% of the class for Bachelor’s Degree, in principle, (a certified document of class rank is required).

(3) Applicant should have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3 or more in the 4-scale grading system or at least 7.5 in the 10-scale grading system, with some English competency. (TOEFL score or equivalent test is required.)
(4) Applicants must be outstanding graduates of Master’s Degree Program of AUN/SEED-Net Project, or outstanding young teaching staff or research staff of Member Institutions, who are strongly motivated to have a professional career as teaching staff at Member Institutions.
(5) Applicants, in principle, should have at least one recent (not older than 2 years) research publication in refereed national or international journal.
(6) Applicants must be under the age of 35 at the time of enrollmentand capable of carrying out independent research.

4. Duration of Scholarships
The duration of the scholarship is strictly three years.

5. Coverage of the Scholarships
Tuition fees, living expenses, health insurance, and a round-trip air ticket will be provided as per JICA regulations.

6. Application for Scholarships

The application procedure is as follows:

6.1 Application and screening process
(1) The applicants for the Doctoral Degree Program in Japan submit the AUN/SEED-Net’s Application Form for Scholarship along with other required documents (please refer to Application Form of the Doctoral Degree Program in Japan 2013, Item No. 12-13) to the contact person of the Member Institutions to which the applicants belong (sending institutions). (List of contact person at each Member Institution is given in Attachment 3.)
Please note that at this stage, applicants are required to submit the names of their proposed Japanese advisors and Japanese Support Universities, but there is no need to submit application form of those universities.

(2) The contact person of each sending institution sends a collection of Application Forms endorsed by the Member Institution to the AUN/SEED-Net Project. Please note that individual applications sent to AUN/SEED-Net Project will not be accepted. However, Sending Institutions could submit the collection of application forms more than once towards the Deadline.

(In case of applicants studying overseas, Application Forms as well as other required documents can be submitted directly to AUN/SEED-Net Project, provided that the applicants request the contact person of their respective Sending Institution to submit an endorsement letter to AUN/SEED-Net.)

(3) The AUN/SEED-Net Project will check all required documents and request missing documents from applicants through Sending Institutions, if necessary.
(4) The AUN/SEED-Net Project will conduct initial screening and send the results to applicants’ sending institutions. At the same time, the AUN/SEED-Net Project will consult with concerned Japanese Supporting Universities for possibility of accepting the applicant in the event that the applicant is awarded a scholarship and passes the entrance examination.
*Applicants are encouraged to contact by themselves a prospective advisor of their preference at a Japanese Supporting University for consent on acceptance in the event the applicants are awarded a scholarship and pass the entrance examination. It will be an advantage in the screening process if the applicant can obtain and enclose such consent letter (or copy of e-mail communication) from a prospective advisor in this application as it can fasten the screening process.
(5) After the communication with Japanese Supporting Universities, the AUN/SEED-Net Project prioritizes the applicants and sends the result to JICA Headquarters. JICA Headquarters then make the decision on the selection of the successful applicants by April2013.
(6) The AUN/SEED-Net Project or JICA Office in each country informs the results to the Member Institutions/Members countries officially to which the applicants belong in April 2013.
(7) The process after sending the official notifications may be different in terms of countries or Japanese universities. AUN/SEED-Net Project, in cooperation with the JICA Office in the respective countries, will advise the scholarship awardees on the necessary procedures.

6.2. Official request from a member country to the Japanese Government
(1)  JICA Headquarters will instruct JICA Office in the member country of the successful candidate to submit the JICA Application Form. The Form should be prepared by the successful candidate with the endorsement ofhis/her Sending Institution and submitted to the Embassy of Japan or the JICA office in each country through the coordinating ministry of agency responsible for international cooperation in the country.
(2)  When the JICA Application Form is endorsed by the Member Institution, a photocopy of the form should be sent directly to the AUN/SEED-Net Project prior to forwarding it.
(3)  After receiving the JICA Application Form, JICA will examine the candidacy and send an official notice of acceptance or rejection to the government concerned.
(4)  It is expected that the enrolment of successful candidates will take place between September 2013 and March 2014.

7. Submission Deadline of the Application Form
Applications for the Doctoral Degree Program in Japan should be submitted both in soft copy and in printed form, by October 31 (Wed), 2012to the AUN/SEED-Net Project. They must be signed by the Dean or the Representative of the AUN/SEED-Net Member Institution to which the applicants originally belong.

8. Scholarship Allocation
The allocation policy of scholarships for each fiscal year is as follows. The high priority is given to the fresh graduates of Master’s Degree Program of AUN/SEED-Net Project. Among teaching staff of Member Institutions, the high priority is given to those who are in the host field of Host Institution.

9. Remarks
Applicants must submit the health check-up certificate before proposed departure date. Applicants who are pregnant or suffer from chronic diseases, e.g., respiratory illness, cardiac disease, metabolic disease (diabetes, etc.), renal dysfunction and immune insufficiency (systemic steroid administration, etc.) shall not be approved of the visit to Japan in principal.

Fujitsu Scholarship Program in Global Leaders for Innovation and Knowledge, 2012

Fujitsu Limited established the Fujitsu Scholarship Program in 1985 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of its founding. The aim was to provide the opportunity for people from the Asia-Pacific region to contribute to the region through studying different values, cultures, and global business. This has been a Fujitsu’s key initiative for deepening the relationships between the countries and citizens of the Asia-Pacific region. This scholarship has since enabled 440 professionals from 18 countries to study cross-cultural management at JAIMS, the Japan-America Institute of Management Science, in Hawaii, U.S.A.
The Fujitsu Scholarship provides full financial assistance for postgraduate education and cross-cultural management training in the Global Leaders for Innovation and Knowledge program by Fujitsu-JAIMS Foundation. The program has three and a half months curriculum. The participants will sharpen their global management knowledge and skills, and build the confidence necessary for success in global business situations. Selected Fujitsu Scholar will attend the Global Leaders for Innovation and Knowledge program from April 21, 2013 to August 2, 2013.

Qualifications 

To apply for the Fujitsu Scholarship, you must meet the qualifications for both Fujitsu Scholarship and Global Leaders for Innovation and Knowledge program as follows.

1. Education

A bachelor's degree or a degree equivalent to a four-year standard baccalaureate degree in any discipline from a regionally or nationally accredited institution

2. Experience

A minimum of three years of relevant full-time work experience (five years preferred) at the time of application

3. Language

A minimum TOEFL score of 577/233/90 (paper/computer/Internet), TOEIC score of 750, or IELTS overall band test result of 6.5 or higher from tests taken between November 2007 and October 2012.
The following applicants are exempt from submitting an English proficiency test score:

• Applicants whose native language is English and who are from either the United States, Australia, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Canada, or Singapore.
• Applicants who hold a bachelor’s or advanced degree within the last five years from an accredited or recognized college or university in the United States, Australia, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Canada, or Singapore. Contact us for the proof of document required.

4. Country

2013 Panasonic Scholarship for Master Students, Japan

Applications are accepted and selected by the Panasonic Scholarship offices in the 8 applicable countries/area: China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnam and India.
Panasonic will accept applications for the “2013 Panasonic Scholarship” under the terms and conditions stated below.

(1) Application-related

1. Eligibility

1) Nationality:

Applicants must be citizens of the applicable countries/area.

2) Educational Background etc.:

Applicants must be graduates or pending graduates of universities and have a distinguished academic record and must have completed 16 years of school education or have been accepted as eligible for enrollment at the targeted graduate schools. However, applicants must have completed their bachelor degrees no more than 4 years prior to the date of their arrival in Japan.

3) Specialization:

Applicants must major in any one of the science, technology and engineering fields.

4) Japanese Language Proficiency:

Applicants must have the desire to master the Japanese language not only for studying at master’s level but also for understanding Japanese culture.

5) Health Conditions:

Applicants must be medically fit and must be strongly motivated to study in Japan.

6) Others:

1. Applicants must be interested in and have the desire to contribute to the development of the applicable countries/area and to promote friendship between the applicable countries/area and Japan.
2. Applicants must obtain a student visa and arrive in Japan by end of March 2013 to attend the award ceremony to be held at Panasonic Headquarters at the beginning of April 2013.
3. Applicants who are receiving or will receive other scholarships including Japanese Government Scholarships are not eligible for the Panasonic Scholarship.

   “¥100,000” (or equivalent amount in other currency designated by the Panasonic Scholarship office in the applicable countries/area) to be provided for enrolling as a research student.
2. Traveling Cost to Japan
   “One-way economy-class air ticket between the applicable countries/area and Japan” (or equivalent amount) to be provided.
   However, expenses such as inland transportation from Panasonic Scholarship student’s (incl. nominated student’s) place of residence to the nearest international airport, airport tax, airport usage charges, special taxes on overseas travel and travel expenses within Japan will be borne by Panasonic Scholarship students (incl. nominated students).

2) After Arrival in Japan

The scholarship to be provided after arrival in Japan is described below. The duration of the scholarship is limited to 3 years in accordance with the standard education periods as follows: 1 year for a research student and 2 years for a master's course at graduate school. However, the duration of the scholarship is to be shortened accordingly in case where the student's course of study is less than the standard education period.

*Panasonic highly recommends Panasonic Scholarship students (incl. nominated students) to be a research student for 1 year in order for them to improve Japanese proficiency, to contact with Japanese culture and to set the basic direction of future research theme.

1. Research Student of Graduate School

Basic Scholarship	¥150,000 per month
Tuition Assistance	Actual Amount (a maximum of ¥200,000 to be paid each half year)

2. Master's Course of Graduate School

Basic Scholarship	¥180,000 per month
Entrance Fee Assistance	Actual Amount (a maximum of ¥250,000 to be paid)
Tuition Assistance	Actual Amount (a maximum of ¥250,000 to be paid per each half year)

4. Forms and Applications
   Applicants must submit the following documents by the deadline to the Panasonic



1) Documents to be submitted

1. Application form
2. A letter of recommendation from the academic advisor of the university the applicant graduated from
3. Study and research plan in Japan
4. Original university transcript (a photocopy is not acceptable.)
5. A certified copy of the applicant’s degree
6. 3 copies of recent photographs (taken in the last 6 months), size 4x3cm, upper half of the body from the front with head uncovered.
   The applicant’s name is to be written on the reverse side and 1copy must be affixed to Application form No.1 .
7. Recent Medical Report (The report must be compiled by the health institute nominated by the Panasonic Scholarship office in the applicable countries/area.
8. * Learning History/Master Plan of Japanese
   * Learning History/Master Plan of Japanese shall be submitted only by those who attend the final interview.

2) Deadline for submission :

Please ask the Panasonic Scholarship office in the applicable countries/area. *Any application received after the deadline shall not be accepted.

5. Selection and Notification
   Please ask the Panasonic Scholarship office in the applicable countries/area.

(2) Requirements for Panasonic Scholarship students (incl. nominated students)

1. Enrollment in Graduate School and Duration of Research
   Panasonic searches a student with passion for studying at graduate school for 3 (three) years. In concrete, Panasonic searches those who;

1) obtain an informal consent from the academic adviser and finish application for enrollment as a research student within 2012,

2) enroll in graduate school as a research student in April 2013,

3) then enroll in a master’s course in April 2014 and

4) complete a mater’s degree in March 2016.

2. Japanese Language Proficiency Test
   Panasonic Scholarship students (incl. nominated students) are required to obtain N4 or above of Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) to be conducted in the applicable countries/area at the beginning of December 2012. In line with this, Panasonic recommends a student who has never learned Japanese to start a preparation for Japanese learning before attending the final interview. Panasonic may ask questions in easy Japanese at the final interview.
   Besides, it is said that a student enrolling in a master’s course should reach N1 or above of JLPT in order for them to successfully study and research at a graduate school.

1. Procedures Before/After Arrival in Japan

1) Acquisition of Passport

Panasonic Scholarship students (incl. nominated students) must compile responsibly all the necessary documents, follow the required procedures and preparations for getting a passport and bear expenses related.

2) Acquisition of Student Visa

Panasonic Scholarship students (incl. nominated students) must compile responsibly all the necessary documents, follow the required procedures and preparations for getting a student visa and bear expenses related.

3) Acquisition of Admission Approval from Graduate School

Panasonic Scholarship students (incl. nominated students) must compile responsibly all the necessary documents, follow the required procedures and preparations for enrolling as a research student such as getting an admission approval from a graduate school.

4) Reservation of Accommodation

Panasonic Scholarship students (incl. nominated students) must compile responsibly all the necessary documents, follow the required procedures and preparations for reserving an accommodation and bear expenses related.

5) Application for Alien Registration

Panasonic Scholarship students (incl. nominated students) must compile responsibly all the necessary documents, follow the required procedures and preparations for applying for the alien registration and bear expenses related.

6) Subscription to Medical Insurance

Panasonic Scholarship students (incl. nominated students) must compile responsibly all the necessary documents, follow the required procedures and preparations for subscribing to the National Health Insurance and bear expenses related.

Panasonic Scholarship students (incl. nominated students) are recommended to refer to the Student Guide to Japan issued by Japan Student Services Organization on all initial expenses incurred after arrival in Japan.
The first scholarship payment will be made in April 2013.
2. Panasonic Scholarship students (incl. nominated students) are required to observe Panasonic Scholarship’s Rules and follow instructions given by the Panasonic Scholarship office in Japan and the applicable countries/area, and to submit the necessary documents such as a monthly report, Japanese language progress report, Notice of Informal Consent issued by your target professor and Notice of Admission etc. without delay.


3. Panasonic reserves the right to suspend temporarily or terminate immediately the scholarship if Panasonic finds Panasonic Scholarship students (incl. nominated students) to be in violation of the scholarship conditions. Panasonic also reserves the right to claim a partial or full refund of the scholarship, entrance fee assistance and tuition assistance amount previously-provided when a serious violation of the principles and objectives of the Panasonic Scholarship is found.


4. The documents submitted shall not be returned under any circumstances.
