Heinlein Society International Scholarship Program for Undergraduate, USA

The Heinlein Society is pleased to announce that for the 2012-2013 academic year we will be offering the first of many scholarships. There will be two $500 scholarships awarded to undergraduate students of accredited 4-year colleges and universities majoring in engineering, math, or physical sciences (e.g. physics, chemistry), or in Science Fiction as Literature. Applicants will need to submit a 500-1,000 word essay on one of several available topics.

Purpose: To provide scholarship to 2 deserving full time students attending a four-year college.

Award Components: Two (2) $500 scholarships awarded to students selected by the Heinlein Society Scholarship Committee.

Eligibility Requirements

1. Applicant must be a full time undergraduate student enrolled in an accredited college that awards Bachelor of Science or Arts degrees.
2. Major must be Science Fiction as Literature or Engineering, Math or Physical Sciences (e.g. Physics, Chemistry).
3. Open to residents of any country.

JFUNU Scholarship for Master’s Students from Developing Countries at United Nations University, Japan

The programme addresses pressing global issues of sustainability, climate change, development, peacebuilding, and human rights through an innovative interdisciplinary approach that integrates the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities. The programme is intended for recent graduates, professionals, and practitioners, offering the unique opportunity to study at a global university within the framework of the United Nations. It provides students with the knowledge and skills to make important contributions towards solving global issues, whether through employment by UN agencies, other international organizations, governments, civil society, or the private sector.

The Japan Foundation for UNU (JFUNU) Scholarship is available for outstanding applicants from developing countries who can demonstrate a need for financial assistance, and they will be considered as candidates for the award of the scholarship.

The JFUNU scholarship covers the full tuition fees, and provides a monthly allowance of 150,000 JPY* for living expenses for a maximum of 24 months. Travel costs to and from Japan, visa handling fees, and health/accident insurance costs must be covered by the student.

*150,000 JPY is the average monthly living cost for an international student without dependents in Tokyo, although this amount may vary depending on the lifestyle of the student.

Eligibility

Applicants for the Master of Science in Sustainability, Development, and Peace are required to have met the following requirements by the application deadline in order to be considered:

1. A completed bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) from a recognised university or institution of higher education.

Those who expect to graduate and have a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent conferred before enrolment may also apply.

2. A particular interest and career aspiration in at least one of the following thematic areas:

Global Change and Sustainability Peace and Security International Cooperation and Development

3. English language proficiency

The minimum score requirements for English language qualifications required by UNU-ISP are:

• 600 in TOEFL - Paper-Based Testing (PBT)
• 100 in TOEFL - Internet-Based Testing (iBT)
• 7.0 in IELTS - Academic format

Applicants, except for the cases below, must submit original TOEFL or IELTS score reports (from a test taken within the last two years) to Admissions Office at the time of application:

• Applicants whose first language is English.
• Applicants who graduated from a university or a postgraduate school located in an English speaking country.
• Applicants who completed an undergraduate or postgraduate degree programme where the language of instruction and examination was English. In this case, an official statement from the academic institution will be required, confirming the use of English as the language of instruction and examination.

Beasiswa Monbukagakusho dari Pemerintah Jepang

Program Research Student ditujukan untuk mereka yang berminat dalam program research student di perguruan tinggi di Jepang. Peminat pada waktu menjalani research student diperbolehkan melamar ke program degree (S-2 / S-3 / professional graduate course) atau meneruskan program S-3 setelah menyelesaikan program S-2 / professional graduate course, apabila lulus seleksi tes ujian yang diberikan oleh universitas yang bersangkutan. Peminat juga dapat langsung masuk ke program degree tanpa mengikuti research student apabila telah mendapatkan izin dari universitas yang bersangkutan. Beasiswa diberikan tanpa ikatan dinas, mencakup biaya kuliah dan biaya hidup.

PERSYARATAN

1. Lahir pada dan setelah tanggal 2 April 1978.
2. IPK minimal 3.0 dari tingkat perguruan tinggi terakhir (atau nilai EJU minimal 260 dalam jumlah 2 mata ujian tidak termasuk Bahasa Jepang)
3. Nilai TOEFL-PBT minimal 550 atau TOEFL-CBT minimal 213 atau TOEFL-IBT minimal 79 atau ekuivalen, atau nilai Japanese Language Proficiency Test minimal level 2.
4. Memilih bidang studi yang sama dengan disiplin ilmu sebelumnya.
5. Bersedia belajar Bahasa Jepang.
6. Sehat jasmani dan rohani.

TAHAP PENYELEKSIAN

• Kedutaan Besar Jepang melakukan seleksi dokumen, dan akan memberitahukan kepada mereka yang lolos 1 (satu) minggu sebelum ujian tertulis. (Kurang lebih 100 pelamar dipilih melalui seleksi dokumen ini.)
• Ujian tertulis Bahasa Jepang dan Bahasa Inggris akan dilaksanakan di Jakarta, Surabaya, atau Medan pada tanggal 18 Juni 2012(Bahasa Inggris sebagai ujian pilihan. Nilai yang lebih tinggi akan dipakai untuk pertimbangan seleksi).
• Wawancara akan diadakan di Jakarta bagi seluruh peserta ujian tertulis pada pertengahan bulan Juli 2012 sampai selesai , sesuai dengan jadwal yang sudah ditentukan oleh Kedubes Jepang (biaya transportasi dan akomodasi tidak disediakan Kedubes Jepang).
• Bagi yang lolos seleksi di Kedubes Jepang akan diberikan surat keterangan sbb:

The Bayer Young Environmental Envoy (BYEE), now on its 9th year in Indonesia, is a global environmental education program for the youth organized by Bayer and the United Nations Environment Programme with the aim of developing young environmental leaders and boosting the level of environmental awareness among the youth. How to join

The quality of life we experience today has been shaped by decisions that were made many years ago. It is important to strike a balance between the needs of developing our civilization and the ability of natural resources to support this growth. We begin to understand that land, forests, agricultural soils, open space, water, and clean air are resources that must be conserved and managed responsibly. Sustainable environmental practices are required to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. 

Write your individual proposal of a simple environmental project in your community or school which demonstrates that environmental protection and economic growth can go hand in hand.

A. Proposal format

Part I Abstract of your proposal (in Bahasa Indonesia) -max. 250 words Part II Project Proposal (in English)

1. The current situation and environment related problems in your local area or school. -max. 250 words
2. Current practical solutions to the problem that had been carried out by either government/industry/NGOs or your school/community -max. 500 words
3. Your proposed personal project, including its objectives and deliverables, which will help to alleviate the problem. -max. 1500 words d. Resource requirements, such as budget, manpower, facilities, as well as institutions/groups involved. Please make sure that all necessary resources are within your reach. Compare resources and costs with the benefits you expect to gain. -max. 1 page
4. The economic and environmental benefits of the project, and how your project reflects sustainable environmental practices. -max. 250 words
5. When necessary, insert graphics, photos, diagram or any supporting visuals that explain the problem solving process that you propose.

B. Rules

• Proposal must be developed according to the specified format above, typed in Microsoft Word, Times New Roman 12pt, double-spaced.
• The proposal should not exceed 10 pages in total. Any relevant graphic, photos, or diagram must be incorporated in the proposal, NOT in separate files.
• Project proposals which are adaptations/upgrades of already existing projects are acceptable, but the entry will be judged solely on the basis of new elements introduced and their added value.
• Pre-existing work or accomplishments prior to the official start-up date will not be given any credit.
• While the project proposal should be the applicant’s own concept, the project itself may be carried out by any number of people, with the applicant taking significant role in its implementation.

Submission Procedure

• Copy/burn your project proposal to a CD. No need to submit a print-out of the proposal.
• Fill up the application form -can be fotocopied or printed from the website- and attach a 4x6 cm ID color photo of yourself.
• With the application form, attach the following personal documents (hard-copy):
• Certificate of cumulative GPA (IPK, minimum 2.5) from your institution.
• Copies of identification card (KTP/SIM).
• Endorsement letter from a faculty member OR the school academic department head OR college/university dean OR academic vice-president OR president.
• Proof of environmental award (if there is any) received.

To be eligible, you must: be applying for one of the above Masters degrees; commence the degree in October 2012 (awards cannot be deferred to subsequent years); and be classified as paying "overseas" (non-EU) tuition fees. Current Sussex undergraduate international students are eligible to apply. If you are awarded one of these scholarships you may not also hold a Chancellor's International Scholarship. Awards will be made at the discretion of the Department.

Eira Francis Davies Scholarship, Swansea University, UK

Female students ordinarily resident in a developing country who are admitted to pursue an undergraduate or a Taught Master’s postgraduate course at Swansea University shall be eligible to apply for the Eira Francis Davies Scholarship.

The Eira Francis Davies Scholarship, which shall be awarded from time to time by the Senate on the basis of academic merit and/or financial need and which shall contribute to tuition fees, shall be tenable for such period as determined by the Senate and shall be subject to satisfactory academic progress and to such other terms and conditions as the University shall stipulate.

It is a condition of the award of the Eira Francis Davies Scholarship that the student agrees to return to her country for work or study upon completion of degree studies at Swansea University.

Eligibility:

• Candidates must be new, full-time, degree seeking, non-EU applicants
• Candidates must have completed an application to study and accepted the offer of a place at Swansea University
• Candidates must show strong academic ability and financial need
• Candidates should not be eligible for other financial support from Swansea University e.g. tuition fee reductions through collaborative links or bursaries
• Please note that students progressing from ICWS are not eligible to apply for an International Scholarship

Terms and Conditions

1. Applicants must be from the designated list of non-EU countries to be eligible.
2. Employees of Swansea University will not be eligible to apply.
3. Scholarships will be used to offset tuition fees for the duration of the degree or course subject to satisfactory academic progression.
4. Awards are available for all undergraduate degree courses, Taught Master’s degrees, including the MBA, the full Legal Practice Course (taught entirely at Swansea University) and the Graduate Diploma in Law. Research courses are not eligible (MRes, MPhil, PhD, EngD).
5. For undergraduate courses, applicants are expected to achieve 3 A grades at A-Level or equivalent (excluding General Studies) and 5 A or A* grades at GCSE level or equivalent. For Postgraduate Taught courses, applicants should have a First Class Bachelors degree (or equivalent). In the case of all applicants, their English language ability must meet any stipulated condition of offer and UKBA requirements.
6. Applicants must be enrolling on an eligible course at Swansea University for the first time in September 2012.
7. Applicants must have completed an application for a place to study at Swansea University, and have received and accepted an offer of a place.
8. Applicants should be privately funded. This award cannot be taken in conjunction with any other scholarship or bursary awarded either internally or externally.
9. Applicants are not eligible to hold other Swansea University awards such as bursaries, or home country sponsorship.
10. Awards are available for full-time study only.
11. The closing date for the receipt of completed scholarship applications is 1st May 2012.
12. Successful applicants will be informed by 1st September 2012 and a reduced tuition fee will be levied at enrolment.
13. Awards are non-transferable.
14. The International Scholarship Committee may use whatever means of assessment it thinks most appropriate in order to determine which candidates are worthy of recommendation for the award of a scholarship.
15. Having accepted an award, a scholarship holder may not withdraw from the course save in exceptional circumstances and subject to the approval of the relevant Headof College. Failure to observe this regulation may render the student liable to repay to the University any award which has been made either in whole or in part as determined by the International Scholarship Committee. If it is deemed necessary for a Scholarship holder to suspend their studies, the scholarship will be held on university account and carried forward to the year of resumption of studies and the candidate will be expected to pay their personal contribution on a pro-rata basis. If in the view of the appropriate Head of College, a Scholarship holder’s progress is deemed to be unsatisfactory, the Scholarship may be withdrawn. A Scholarship may also be withdrawn on grounds of failure to comply with any of the conditions attached to the Award. The candidate may be required to repay to the University any award which has been made, either in whole or in part, as determined by the Committee. If the scholar feels that such a withdrawal is unjustified s/he may appeal in writing to the Head of the International Development Office within 15 working days of the date of notification.
16. The International Development Office reserves the right to make, amend, withdraw, suspend or cancel without notice these and such other Regulations as may be in force from time to time and such decisions shall be final. We believe the terms of the Scholarship complies with current legislation and reserve the right to make amendments to it to ensure that it does.
17. Scholarship holders, having accepted an award, are reasonably expected to co-operate in Swansea University recruitment activities and automatically agree to their names and details being released by the University’s International Development Office and Marketing Department for marketing purposes.

Direktorat Pembinaan Pendidik dan Tenaga Kependidikan Pendidikan Menengah (Dit.
