PENANG – ACEH PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM 2012

Sehubungan dengan Penandatanganan MoU kerjasama antara Pemerintah Aceh dengan Invest Penang yang ditandatangani oleh Badan Investasi dan Promosi Aceh, disaksikan oleh Gubernur Aceh dan Ketua Menteri Besar Pulau Pinang pada tanggal 20 September 2010 di Gedung Development Center (PDC) Pulau Pinang Malaysia.

Sebagai tindak lanjut untuk mengembangkan pemberdayaan ekonomi dan peningkatan Sumberdaya Manusia di kedua belah pihak antara Pemerintah Aceh dan Penang, Pihak Penang menawarkan Pengembangan Profesional Training Program untuk 2 (dua) orang untuk tahun 2012 (Program tersebut berkelanjutan pada tahun 2013 dan 2014).

ILEP (International Leaders In Education Program), Fulbright


The International Leaders in Education Program (ILEP) is a program of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State, and is implemented by IREX (the International Research & Exchanges Board), a Washington, DC based non-profit organization.
ILEP will consist of a semester-long academic program at a U.S. university, including coursework and intensive training in teaching methodologies, lesson planning, teaching strategies for their home environment, teacher leadership, as well as the use of computers for internet, word processing and as tools for teaching.
The semester-long program, which will commence in January 2013 and conclude in May 2013, will also include an internship at a secondary school to engage participants actively with the American teachers and students.
The Fellowship provides:
* A pre-departure orientation held in Indonesia
* Round-trip airfare to and within the U.S.
* A Welcome Orientation in Washington, DC
* Academic program fees
* Housing (generally shared with other program fellows)
* Accident and sickness insurance
* A daily allowance for meals and incidentals during the university academic program
* A laptop computer
* book/professional development allowance
* A Closing Seminar in Washington, DC
* excess bagage/shipping allowance
* The opportunity to apply for collaborrative grants with U.S. colleagues


Eligible applicants must:
  • Be secondary-level (SMP/SMA or equivalent), full-time teachers in disciplines including: English as a Foreign Language, Social Studies, Civics, Mathematics or Sciences.
  • 5 years or more of teaching experience.
  • Be citizen of Indonesia
  • Be proficient in written and spoken English with a minimum ITP TOEFL score of 500 or IELTS 5.0 or IBT TOEFL score of 60/61. Please note that TOEFL prediction or TOEFL-like score cannot be accepted.

Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program for Mid-Career Professionals


Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowships enable Indonesian mid-career professionals to participate in non-degree programs that combine academic course work at the graduate level with professional development activities in the U.S. for a period of one academic year (9 months). Candidates are typically administrators in leadership positions with a minimum of five years of work experience who represent either the public or non-profit private sectors, including Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO’s) who are committed to public service.

Applicants will possess:
  • a Sarjana (S1) degree with a minimum GPA of 2.75 (4.0 scale). S2 graduates are also welcomed to apply.
  • a minimum ITP TOEFL score of 525 or IELTS of 5.5 or IBT TOEFL score of 70/71. Please note that TOEFL prediction or TOEFL-like score cannot be accepted.


PRIORITY DISCIPLINES

Fulbright Foreign Language (Indonesian) Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Program


Applicants must be English language teachers or currently in training to become the English language teacher and must be able to demonstrate a commitment to language teaching upon return to Indonesia following the award.
The program is for one academic year (9 months) and requires the grantee to teach Indonesian/Javanese language and culture in the U.S. for 20 hours per week, and to Enroll in at least two U.S. Studies and / or ESL methodology classes per semester.

Applicants who are no older than 29 years of age by October 1, 2012 and will possess:
  • a Bachelor’s (S1) degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (scale 4.00)
  • Leadership qualities
  • a good understanding of Indonesian and international cultures
  • a demonstrated commitment to the chosen field of study
  • a willingness to return to their home institution upon completion of the Fulbright program

Undergraduate Scholarships, International Hotel Management, Stenden University Bali, Indonesia


After a successful first year, we continue our scholarship program for the coming academic year 2012/2013. Outstanding Indonesian students can be granted full or partial academic scholarship that can help reduce the financial burden. This scholarship gives you a chance to join our International Hotel Management program with a Double Bachelor degree upon graduation. Our program is recognized internationally for its high educational standards, which gives our graduates excellent job opportunities worldwide. If you have first-rate study results, if you are highly motivated to study International Hotel Management in Bali and if your level of English is sufficient, you can apply for our scholarship. The scholarship can last for the entire period of your study, depending on your study results.
Scholarships offer
Stenden University Bali offers two types of scholarships for the academic year 2012/2013:
Full scholarship
A scholarship that covers the complete tuition fee (of USD  4,900 per year) and all other study related costs, such as books, uniforms and other learning materials, equating up to USD 20,000 in savings over four years. This scholarship will be rewarded only to the very best student(s).  You should be highly talented and have outstanding study results.
Partial scholarship
A scholarship that consists of a discount of USD 1,000 per year on the tuition fee.
Both scholarships are for at least one academic year. However, if your study results at Stenden University Bali are excellent (full scholarship) or above average (partial scholarship), the scholarship will be extended to the following academic years as well.
Selection criteria
Stenden University Bali has strict admission requirements for studying International Hotel Management. Apart from these admissions criteria, you should meet the following criteria in order to receive one of our scholarships:
Full Scholarship
  • Indonesian citizen
  • Belong to the top 10% of your class
  • Ambitious and highly motivated individual
  • Showcasing a strong commitment to furthering a   career in International Hotel Management
Partial Scholarship
  • Indonesian citizen
  • Belong to the top 25% of your class
  • Ambitious and highly motivated individual

The above characteristics should be demonstrated in the documents that you send with your application and in the interview we will have with selected candidates.
How to apply
Application for the scholarship program should be completed together with the application for the program International Hotel Management.
  • Prepare the standard documents for application for International Hotel Management program as follows: 
    • A completed and signed Application Form Original copy of IELTS or TOEFL results from attesting your knowledge of English
    • Certified copy of your diploma (in English) of your school/college/university education
    • Certified copy of grades-sheet (in English)

  • Fill in the Scholarship Application Form
  • Add your motivation letter explaining why you think you should earn a partial or full scholarship. The motivation letter can be up to 1500 words. We will judge the content of the letter, but also your level of English, your writing style, structure of the letter and argumentation. Make sure your motivation letter is a true representation of your best writing
  • Add all documents that proof your excellence, talent and motivation. Examples of documents are: 
    • A statement of the school that you belong to the top 10% or top 25% of your class;
    • One academic reference of a teacher, principle or company demonstrating your academic competence;
    • One personal reference of a teacher, principle or company demonstrating your good character and motivation;
    • Certificates of extra courses you attended, contests you won, etc;
Please keep in mind that we will look at the content and quality of the documents, NOT at the quantity. So only hand in documents that are useful and to the point.
Only students that hand in all four types of documents will be considered candidates for the scholarship program.

Selection procedure
Stenden University Bali has four intakes a year for the International Hotel Management program. The selection procedure for the scholarships for students starting in September (first intake) and November (second intake) will be as follows:
  • Application closes June 22nd 2012
  • All applicants will receive a notification if they are shortlisted or not, on the July 6th 2012
  • Interviews with shortlisted candidates are held between July 9th and July 20th 2012. The interview will be held with the General Manager of Stenden University Bali, one member of the academic staff and a manager of a hotel in Indonesia. If you come from outside Bali (within Indonesia) your travel expenses will be covered.
  • The final decision will be announced on July 27th 2012.
Both the full and partial scholarships are intended for applicants entering during primary and secondary intakes in September and November. Depending on the quality and number of the applicants that are selected for a scholarship, Stenden University Bali reserves the right to conduct subsequent rounds of scholarship selection for the intake in February (third intake) and April (fourth intake).

University Leadership and Management Training Course in Management, Germany


The German Academic Exchange  Service (DAAD), the University  of Oldenburg in Germany, and the Nelson  Mandela  Metropolitan  University  in  South  Africa  are  jointly  organising  an  intensive  Higher 
Education  Management  Training  Course  (UNILEAD)  in  Oldenburg.  UNILEAD  is  part  of  the  DIES 
programme (Dialogue on Innovative Higher Education Strategies), which has been jointly coordinated by the DAAD and HRK (German Rectors’ Conference) since 2001. The costs for this training course will  be  mainly  covered  by  funds  provided  by  the  German  Federal  Ministry  for  Economic  Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through the DAAD
The  professional  training  course  combines  online  and  contact  phases  in  a  Blended  Learning approach: After an introduction phase of Distance Learning the initial contact phase with a duration of three  weeks  (Project  Management  and  Management  of  Financial  Resources)  will  be  organised  in September  2012  at  the  University  of  Oldenburg  in  Germany.  The  second  contact  phase  focusing  on Human Resource Management will take place in February 2013. In between, participants are asked to 
apply the skills acquired at the home university within individual projects while being accompanied by distance coaches. 


Course Contents and Methodology 
The  course  covers  topics  with  relevance  to  Higher  Education  Management  in  the  following  three
areas: 
•  1st module: Project Management 
•  2nd module: Management of Financial Resources 
•  3rd module: Human Resource Management 

The methodology will be strictly practice orientated and is based on case studies or questions derived from the particular job situation of the participants. Thus, it is expected to bring in personal experience and  to  share  this  knowledge  with  the  group  of  around  20  participants  from  different  regions  of  the world. High personal motivation, the willingness to get actively involved during the online and contact phases, and English language skills on an advanced level are essential for the successful completion of this course.  
Within contact phases at the University of Oldenburg, all three modules will be covered. Prior, and in preparation to this, an online phase of 8-10 weeks is scheduled in which the participants are asked to read the study material and to work on short papers, including the draft of a project action plan. These papers  are  meant  to  describe  the  individual  work  experience  at  the  home  university  and  to  identify problems  and  obstacles  referring  to  the  topics  of  the  course.  During  the  first  contact  phase  the personal action plans will be adjusted and fine-tuned; the milestones of the project action plans will be monitored  by  distance  coaching  between  September  2012  and  February  2013.  Finally,  during  the 

contact phase of the last  module there  will be  the opportunity to reflect on the  implementation  of the individual projects and to discuss on next steps.


Participants’ Profile 
•  Participants are young university leaders aged between 30 and 40 years. 
•  They  have  been  holding  a  university  management  position  with  managerial  and  personnel 
responsibilities for at least two years in one of the following fields: 
o  Managers  of  central  university  departments  (Planning,  Evaluation,  Financing,  Human Resources, Continuing Education, International Offices, Technology Transfer etc.) 
o  Task force managers for university reform projects 
o  Managers of staff development units or programmes.  
•  They hold at least a Master’s degree. 
•  The provision of international experience will be an asset. 
•  Active and excellent English language skills (speaking and writing) are indispensable. 
•  Being a DAAD alumni will be considered an asset, but is by no means compulsory. 


•  Participants from universities of the following regions are eligible to apply:  
o  Sub-Saharan  Africa  (Burundi,  Ethiopia,  Kenya,  Malawi,  Rwanda,  Sudan,  South  Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and South Africa) 
o  South  East  Asia  (Cambodia,  Indonesia,  Laos,  Malaysia,  Philippines,  Thailand,  Myanmar and Vietnam) 
o  Northern Latin America (Central America and Mexico) and Colombia 
o  Middle East (Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Syria, Yemen)

Endeavour Postgraduate Award (including PM's Award)

The Endeavour Awards is the Australian Government’s internationally competitive, merit-based scholarship program providing opportunities for citizens of the Asia Pacific, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas to undertake study, research and professional development in Australia. Awards are also available for Australians to undertake study, research and professional development abroad. The Endeavour Postgraduate Award provides financial support for international students for up to 4 years to undertake a postgraduate qualification at a Masters or PhD level either by coursework or research in any field of study in Australia.

 

Prime Minister’s Australia Asia Incoming Postgraduate Award

The top twenty recipients of the Endeavour Postgraduate Award (PhD only), from the ten eligible Asian countries and regions (India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Republic of Korea/South Korea, Singapore, The People’s Republic of China-including Hong Kong, and Macau SAR’s, Taiwan, Thailand and Viet Nam), will be offered the Prime Minister’s Australia Asia Award and its additional benefits.
The Prime Minister’s Australia Asia Incoming postgraduate Award provides financial support for international students for a maximum of 4 years to undertake a postgraduate qualification at PhD level in any field of study in Australia. Award holders will also have the opportunity to undertake an optional internship in Australia for up to 12 months (minimum of 2 months) at the completion of their study program. Citizens and/or Permanent Residents of the ten eligible Asian countries and regions listed above are eligible for this Award.
All eligible international applicants for the Endeavour Postgraduate Award from the countries and regions listed above will automatically be considered for this Award. Applicants do not have to acknowledge that they want to be considered for a Prime Minister’s Australia Asia Award. International applicants should not contact their Australian host university regarding the Prime Minister’s Australia Asia Incoming Postgraduate Awards. The eligibility requirements and application process are the same as for the Endeavour Postgraduate Award.

Endeavour Research Fellowship (including Cheung Kong)

The top 5 incoming (International) and the top 5 outgoing (Australian) Endeavour Research Fellowship recipients coming from and/or going to a participating Cheung Kong participating country (Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, China-including Hong Kong and Macau SARs, India, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea/South Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam) will be offered the Endeavour Australia Cheung Kong Research Fellowship.

All eligible Endeavour Research Fellowship applicants will automatically be considered for this Award. Applicants do not have to acknowledge that they want to be considered for an Endeavour Australia Cheung Kong Research Fellowship.
